WVU Hancock County Extension is looking for AmeriCorps members to serve as mentors or community coordinators for its Energy Express summer reading program. Energy Express is an eight-week program that promotes academic success in West Virginia children in reading. AmeriCorps members must be available for continuous service from June 9 through July 29 and be at least 18 years old by June 9. Mentors must also be a college-bound high school student, current student, or recent college graduate without a full-time job.

Community Coordinators connect parents and community members to the Energy Express site by recruiting, training, and supervising community volunteers and teens who participate in various site activities.
In return for their 300 hours of service, Energy Express AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance of $2,350 and a scholarship of $1,374.60 good for up to seven years to pay for tuition or university loans. Applications are now available online at extension.wvu.edu/energy-express. The initial deadline to apply is March 25.
Positions are available at two Hancock County sites – Weirton Elementary School in Weirton and Allison Elementary School in Chester.
