Students at a Bradford school battle to be named the funniest class in the country in a popular comic book competition.
Bradford Christian School, in Livingstone Road, Bolton Woods, has turned out to be one of the funniest schools in the country. The school’s five and six years were selected as one of the 10 finalists in the Beano Hunt for the funniest UK class of 2021.
Their joke; “ Why did Minnie change her name when Rubi’s ‘Growth Ray’ experience went wrong? Minnie is shrinking it! was specially chosen by Beano’s panel of experts and is now subject to a public vote on Beano.com to decide the final winner.
The national initiative, in partnership with YoungMinds, the children’s and people’s mental health charity, provides teachers with free Beano for Schools lesson plans linked to the curriculum and aims to boost class morale, tickle teachers. fun bones and find the next generation of comedy geniuses in Britain’s funniest class.
More than 120 elementary school classes from across the country submitted their original jokes for a chance to win the title.
The top 10 shortlisted jokes can now be voted on on the comics website until Thursday, June 10 to decide who will be crowned Britain’s funniest class of 2021. The winning class will be revealed in a special issue of the Beano on sale in July.
Sharon Taylor, a teacher at Bradford Christian School, said: âOur fifth and sixth grade class has been driving Beano crazy this semester.
âI loved the Beano as a kid, as did many of our staff, including drama teacher Jacob Phillips, who has been there almost every year since the start of the Beano.
âIt has been a difficult year for everyone and we wanted to make their English lessons fun.
âHe loaned Dennis and Gnasher badges for the kids who produced the best daily joke.
âWe used some fabulous resources provided by the Beano and had fun playing with the language.
I couldn’t believe it when we got a call the day we broke up to say that one of our jokes hit the bottom 10.
“We would love to win a one-year Beano membership for each student in the class as well as other reading gifts.”
Mike Stirling, Beano’s Editorial Director and Chief Justice, said: âThis Minnie joke made Beano’s office laugh to the max.
âGrades 5 and 6 at Bradford Christian School renamed one of our most beloved characters, after a silly science experiment with Rubi.
“The science of laughter tells you it makes us feel better, so thank these students for your vote.”
The winning class will be transformed into characters and featured in the iconic Beano comic book, along with winning Beano comic book and book subscriptions through Studio Press for the whole class.
The winners will also receive a special VIP Beano assembly for their entire school and receive an official Beano trophy crowning them with Britain’s funniest class.
The children’s comic book was first published in July 1938 and continued production throughout WWII, with stories from The Bash Street Kids and Minnie the Minx, Bananaman and Dennis and Gnasher.
